TAVARES -- When politicians ask if she's better off now than she was four years ago, Ormond Beach's Christine "Chris" Thomas can answer in the affirmative. But not because of anything government has done.

In these four short years, Thomas has worked her way up the business ladder to senior vice president controller at Reunion Bank of Florida and now she's the Tavares-based bank's chief financial officer.

Reunion has branch banks in Port Orange, Kissimmee, Orlando and St. Augustine.

Michael L. Sleaford, president and CEO of Reunion Bank, was pleased to announce the promotion of Thomas in a media release Thursday.

Thomas assumed her new position in September. Having started with Reunion in July of 2008, she had been serving as the bank's senior VP controller until Sleaford promoted her to the CFO post, effective Sept. 1. And she couldn't be more happy.

"I've always enjoyed working at a community bank," said Thomas, an Ormond Beach resident since 1977, and a native of Syracuse, NY. "I was a controller in the 1990s for a large bank and I really prefer our team and customers here."
