NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Of the 15 public candidate debates Headline Surfer sponsored and moderated, the ugliest by far was Sunday's battle between dist. 8 state senate candidates Dorothy Hukill, the Republican, and Democrat Frank Bruno.

The 90-minute debate was seen in person by more than 200 citizens at the Brannon Center. It was the first and only time citizens got to see the two candidates face to face leading up to the Nov. 6 elections.

The 24/7 Internet newspaper will bring the debate in its entirety to you this afternoon in a story with five videos and plenty of photos as well as a snapshot profile of the combatants.

In a nutshell, the two were accusatory, argumentative and blamed each other as well as the media for criticisms of their political commercials and how thewy are being perceived publicly. Suffice to say this was not a genteel event and what little there was in the way of defining the issues was lost in the bickering.
