EDGEWATER -- I think the resignation of the pope of his own volition should be heeded by many of our politicians and supreme court judges who think their positions are for life and stay way past viable ages. There are those who are trying to make it seem he is being forced out, but I think the man knows his limitations and is smart enough to step down.
Of course, I am not Catholic which I guess makes my opinion easier to have but apparently even the pope knows God would approve of his decision. Because he is pope doesn’t mean he is God and should stay on until he dies as many have before him. He knows he is not well and that hampers his abilities as does his age. Good for him!

He is causing quite a few difficulties for the church. How will they handle this, where will he live, what color should his robe be, since he is not dying they can’t dispose of his papal ring as they are used to doing so what do they do now?
There are many ticklish questions like those I just mentioned. There will be answers in the coming weeks.
He will be well taken care of for the rest of his life. I thought when I first heard this that he would be returning to his own country, but it seems he will stay in the Vatican just in a different home.
I, for one, hope he is setting a precedent not just for the church, but for all places where people treat their employment as an only leave it when you’re dead kind of thing. It took guts to break with this long-held tradition.
As President Roosevelt would have said “Bully for him!"
