DAYTONA BEACH -- Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport increased 1 percent in January compared with January of last yar, Volusia County officials said.
During January, 44,170 passengers arrived and departed through the county-operated airport. This compares with the 43,565 travelers recorded in January 2012.
For the 12 months ending January 31, 584,885 passengers traveled through the airport, compared with 558,061 passengers recorded for the 12 months ending January 31, 2012, a 5 percent increase.
“We are pleased with January’s traffic increase and remain optimistic for 2013,” said Rick Karl, the airport’s director. “However, rising jet fuel prices pose a significant challenge to continued traffic growth and the airline industry as a whole.” The traffic increase in January continues an upward trend that started in late 2009.
