Frederick has won more journalism awards (seven in the last two years alone) in Central Florida than any other reporter since the mid-1990s.

DAYTONA BEACH -- For the second year in a row, Headline Surfer® Publisher Henry Frederick took home multiple awards for the most daily stories of any individual journalist in the 2013 Florida Press Club competition, the only statewide celebration of the Sunshine State's excellence in journalism.

Among the stories recognized were Frederick's reporting of the gunshot suicide of retired professional wrestler Mike Graham during Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach, an analysis piece on speedy trial provisions related to the George Zimmerman murder trial in Sanford, his second consecutive award for coverage of Trayvon Martin slaying).

Frederick also won for a multi-media story on an Ormond Beach minister's sermon on the carnage of the Boston Marathon bombing in which he was a runner; the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. march in New Smyrna Beach organized by Pastor Pete Carter; a profile on African-American minister L. Ronald Durham of Daytona Beach and four stories in the continuing investigative reports, "Show Me the Money: New Smyrna Beach."

Frederick's four New Smyrna Beach-focused "Show Me the Money" stories deemed award-winners included state ethics charges pending against Mayor Adam Barringer, a successful lawsuit filed by a firefighter against the city, the embarrassment of City Manager Pam Brangaccio's ill treatment of county residents at an annexation meeting and the DUI-related horrific death on the South Causeway Bridge of a Port Orange woman who had been partying during an alcohol-fueled street party paid for with taxpayer funds.

Frederick, whose media outlet is the smallest in the state of Florida in terms of staffing (himself, his wife, Serafina Frederick and several community and political bloggers) received three third-place awards in the categories of Public Safety, General News and Religion Writing.

Last year, Frederick was the top award-winner in the Florida Press competition, winning four individual awards, including first place for Blog Writing and three third-place awards for Public Safety Reporting, General News Writing and Best Online Presentation (including use of social media).

In the 2011 FPC competition, the late Peter Mallory, who helped Frederick establish the internet newspaper, won a third-place award for Blog Writing.

Headline Surfer®, was launched April 7, 2008 in New Smyrna Beach by Frederick and Mallory initially as NSBNews.net. Mallory retired in early 2012, and died that June at the age of 77. Frederick obtained the registered trademark for Headline Surfer shortly after that as the sole proprietor of NSB News LLC.

Frederick, 51, moved the home-based operation to Lake Mary in September. Prior to taking his journalism career into the world of "new media," he spent the better part of four decades in print newspapers.

Frederick was a cops and courts reporter for the Daytona Beach News-Journal, from 1985 to 2004, where he won multiple awards for witnessing and reporting on the execution of serial killer Aileen Wuornos, the civil trial of Teresa Earnhardt in keeping NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt's photos out of the media following his fatal crash in the 2001 Daytona 500.

Before that Frederick covered cops and courts as well for the Gannett-owned Journal News in West Nyack, NY., from 1989 to 1995. While there, he won a prestigious award from the New York Associated Press for his coverage of the bludgeoning murder of a Pakistani national.

After leaving the Daytona Beach News-Journal near the end of 2004, Frederick was a city editor for nearly two years with the Taunton (Mass.) Daily Gazette, flying back and forth when he could from Providence to Orlando. While there, he and his small staff earned six New England Press Association Awards, and he and one of his reporters shared a national investigative award from Suburban Newspapers of America in 2007.

After that he was briefly managing editor of the Port Orange/New Smyrna Beach weekly editions of Hometown News, editor for seven months of the now-defunct daily New Smyrna Beach Observer and was the city reporter for the Palatka Daily News for several months.

Frederick has literally written thousands of stories for newspapers in Florida, New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut since graduating with high honors from Central Connecticut State University in New Britain in 1984, with a BA in political science and public administration and a concentration in writing. He received the "President's Citation" as the top student in his graduating class for "academic excellence and outstanding contributions to the university and community." He was editor of the college newspaper for two years and started up an independent campus newspaper while enrolled in graduate studies there.

Henry Frederick has secured publishing rights to three books through Xlibris Publishing. The first is "Creepy Ass Cracker," based on his coverage of the slaying of Trayvon Martin and the subsequent murder trial of George Zimmerman. The 800-page book is scheduled for release in bookstores in January. The second book is titled, "Wrestling ReWind," subtitled, "My life-long love affair with the Theater of the Absurd in the Squared Circle" is scheduled for publication in mid-2014. A third book is yet untitled.
