Thanksgiving: Family, friends and good health

OAK HILL -- As a child, Thanksgiving was one of my favorite holidays. I still remember my mother cooking the turkey with all the fixings. The smells would fill the house. It was special.

As I have gotten older, I realize that there is more to Thanksgiving besides all the good food. It's family and friends and good health. With family, it's the joy of being together to give thanks that is is special. That's the true meaning of the holiday.

At this Thanksgiving, let's take a moment to give thanks to our men and women in the U.S. armed services and the sacrifices they are making for us to enjoy our freedoms and the aid they are providing to those in other parts of the world. Many who serve will not be able to be with their families and friends as they are either overseas or in training. May they are all have a special and safe Thanksgiving holiday.
