
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Welcome to “Last Night, First Day at the Beach,” a special series of events, from sidewalk sales and dine outs to fireworks and beach yoga, with that final push through the holidays and the ringing in of the new year.
The “Last Night” portion of the events kicks off with the Countdown JAM! Friday with a free concert with multiple bands playing along Flagler Avenue. Some locations are age 21 and over and start times vary so check www.nsbfla.com/first_day for a complete schedule.
Bring the entire family to the New Smyrna Beach Pirate and Princess Party, 9:30 a,m to 11:30 a.m. at Barracuda’s Bar & Grille. Reservations are recommended by calling 386-957-3931, though walk ups are welcome. The fun continues at the Countdown to 2014 Sidewalk Sale.
With over 100 shops on Canal Street and Flagler Avenue, save big on end of season sales and get a sneak peek at what’s new for 2014. Hours are 11 am to 5 pm and the event includes the face painters, kids’ crafts, balloon giveaways, and DJ music.
New Year’s Eve in New Smyrna Beach is even more special now with “Last Night” dining options of the New Year’s Eve Dine Out, such as packaged dining, live entertainment, free valet, etc. Participating restaurants will give out a special New Smyrna Beach New Year’s wish with a twist to all their diners!
And ring in the New Year with New Year’s Eve Fireworks at 9 p.m. on Flagler Avenue. Let the little revelers think they stayed up all the way to midnight! After the fireworks, the big kids can enjoy multiple New Year’s Eve parties along Flagler Avenue. To celebrate the New Year and ring in 2014, the “First Day” series of events kicks off with the Unlock the Ocean ceremony, 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1 at the boardwalk area of the Flagler Avenue Beach approach.
Dignitaries will be on hand as they ceremonially unlock the ocean with our giant key, surrounded by revelers and party favors. New Year’s Day continues with 9 a.m. Wednesday Flamingo 5K Beach Run Wednesday where runners, walkers, joggers, and families are all welcome! Medals in 84 categories, two overall winner plaques, and prizes for the best flamingo costumed runner will be awarded.
Participants also have the chance to win one of 14 new Beach Cruiser bicycles! Post-run Social and Award Ceremony to follow the race and the Flamingo Flop. Our very own version of the Polar Bear Plunge with a Florida twist, the Flamingo Flop will take place at the Flagler Avenue Beach approach following the 5K run.
The first 300 participants will receive free flamingo sunglasses.
Closing out the “Last Night, First Day at the Beach” series of events is the Art Stroll and Gallery Walk, Saturday, Jan. 4.
