But looks can be deceiving, especially in the surf.
The National Weather Service in Melbourne issued a warning as follows:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MELBOURNE HAS ISSUED A BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT FOR LONGSHORE CURRENTS...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM EDT THIS MORNING THROUGH THIS EVENING.
* HAZARDS...A SOUTHWARD FLOWING LONGSHORE CURRENT WILL OCCUR AT AREA BEACHES. LIFE THREATENING RIP CURRENTS WILL ALSO OCCUR ESPECIALLY NEAR PIERS AND JETTIES.
* TIMING...GREATEST LONGSHORE CURRENT THIS MORNING THEN WINDS EASE BUT THREAT OF RIP CURRENTS WILL EXTEND THROUGH AFTERNOON.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... LONGSHORE CURRENTS COMMONLY OCCUR WHEN WAVES APPROACH THE SHORELINE AT AN ANGLE. THEY CAN PRODUCE RIP CURRENTS NEAR A JETTY OR PIER AND KNOCK YOU OFF A SANDBAR INTO DEEPER WATER. THE BEST SAFETY ADVICE IS TO ONLY ENTER THE SURF NEAR A LIFEGUARD. BUT IF YOU BECOME CAUGHT IN A CURRENT...NEVER ATTEMPT TO SWIM DIRECTLY AGAINST IT...AS YOU WILL TIRE QUICKLY. INSTEAD...TREAD WATER AND SWIM AT AN ANGLE AWAY FROM THE CURRENT. THEN ONCE OUT OF THE CURRENT...SWIM DIRECTLY BACK TOWARD THE BEACH.

THIS LONGSHORE CURRENT...ALONG WITH BREAKING WAVES...CAN KNOCK YOU OFF A SAND BAR INTO DEEPER WATER. LIFE THREATENING RIP CURRENTS WILL ALSO OCCUR NEAR PIERS AND JETTIES. ONLY ENTER THE SURF NEAR A LIFEGUARD. .WIND AND SEA IMPACT... A NORTH TO NORTHEAST WIND FLOW AROUND 15 KNOTS WILL PRODUCE CHOPPY SHORT PERIOD WAVES THIS MORNING IN THE GULF STREAM...WHERE SMALL CRAFT OPERATORS SHOULD EXERCISE CAUTION.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN
...SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY. AN INCREASING NORTHEAST SWELL AND AN ONSHORE WIND FLOW WILL KEEP BEACH AND BOATING CONDITIONS POOR TO HAZARDOUS SUNDAY INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK. A LOW PRESSURE CENTER IS FORECAST TO DEVELOP OVER THE NORTHERN BAHAMAS WEDNESDAY AND MOVE SLOWLY NORTHWARD WELL OFFSHORE EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA. THIS WOULD CONTINUE THE POOR TO HAZARDOUS BEACH AND BOATING CONDITIONS INTO LATE NEXT WEEK. .
