Calling hours today back in Ohio for bike passenger killed in NSB crash involving two Harleys

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Calling hours are planned today in the small Ohio community of Conneaut for Linda M. Lockwood, Bike Week's first fatality last Sunday when she was thrown from the back of a friend's Harley-Davidson when two motorcycles going in the same direction touched in the 1500 block of South Atlantic Avenue near 5th Avenue on the beachside.

Lockwood, 46, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered fatal head injuries in the 4:34 p.m. accident and was pronounced dead shortly after transport to the nearby Bert Fish Medical Center while the operator of the bike and her friend, Russell Luce, 42, also from the same town, was airlefted by Sheriff's helicopter to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach with a serious head injury. He, too, was helmetless, and remains in critical care at Halifax.

David Levesque, 40, and Jennifer A. Levesque, 37, also of Conneaut, Ohio, the rider and passenger, respectively, on the other Harley, received minor injuries.

Lockwood was the first of two Bike Week-related fatalities so far during the 10-day motorcycle rally that ends Sunday.

The second death occurred early Tuesday in DeLeon Springs, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Just after midnight , Paul Allen Jarrett of Charleston, W. Va., and a friend, both retired police officers, were riding their Harleys north on US-17 when Jarrett lost control of his bike, crashed into a fence and separated from the bike. Jarrett, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Calling hours for familiy and friends of Lockwood, are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

Lockwood's funeral service is planned for 11 a.m., Saturday, in the Chapel at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Rt. 20, North Kingsville, Ohio, with the Rev. Jan Walsh, of New Leaf United Methodist Church, officiating.

Lockwood was born Jan. 1, 1964, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Lawrence Papotta and June Georskey. An area resident for most of her life, Linda worked for 10 years at General Aluminum in Conneaut and owned her own daycare. She was a member of the Conneaut Eagles No. 4084 and the Conneaut Moose Lodge.

She enjoyed motorcycles, cooking, music, dancing, camping, outdoor gatherings and was an avid shopper. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her family. She loved and cherished every child as if they were her own, according to her obituary notice.

Survivors include her mother, June Georskey of Conneaut; her husband, Howie Lockwood of Conneaut; two daughters, Nicole (Josh) Maunus of Parma Heights, Ohio, and Rashel Hargett of Ashtabula; her son, Mike Lockwood of Alliance, Ohio; her sister, Tiffine (Jason) Seizmore of Ashtabula, Ohio; her brother, Joseph Papotta; and four grandchildren, Logan Maunus, Jazlyn McIntyre, Taylor Pierce and Preston Pierce.
