Candidates debate Saturday at United Church of Christ to focus on budget/taxes and police/fire issues

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The second and final candidates debate in advance of the Sept. 22 primary will be held 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the United Church of Christ meeting hall, 203 Washington St.

The debate is sponsored by the Public Watch Commitee and NSBNEWS.net. The theme of the debate is "Leadership" and the topics are city budgeting and taxes and police and fire issues.

The format will be broken into three segments: Media (with questions from NSBNEWS.net), audience questions and questions of the candidates by each other. The moderator is PWC Chairman Robert Tolley and the timekeeper is PWC Vice Chairman Robert Rees.

All nine candidates will appear. They are as follows:

Mayor: challengers Marilee Walters and Adam Barringer and incumbent Sally Mackay.

Zone 1 City Commissioner: challengers Frank Dalton Jr. and Judy Reiker and incumbent Randy Richenberg.

Zone 2 City Commissioner: challengers Steve Sather and Palmer Wilson and incumbent Jack Grasty.

The PWC and NSBNEWS.net will host a debate leading up to the general election on Saturday, Oct. 17, time and location to be announced.

More than 200 people attended the initial debate.
