Couny singer Karen Collins to perform at New Smyrna Beach library

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- Karen Collins will perform country classics, holiday music and original compositions from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at the New Smyrna Beach Regional Library, 1001 S. Dixie Freeway.

The coal miner’s daughter, who has released three CDs with the Backroads Band, describes herself as a traditional country singer in the old-school style of Loretta Lynn and Hazel Dickens. She grew up in rural southwest Virginia, where she listened to the Grand Ole Opry on the radio, sang hymns in church, and cultivated a deep appreciation for lyrics and harmony.
