DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- A 13-year-old boy was killed when he was thrown from a speeding stolen motorcycle he was riding when it struck a motor vehicle Saturday near the intersection of 6th Street and Derbyshire, Daytona Beach cops said.
The DBPD accident into the apparent joy ride gone horribly wrong remains under investigation.
Here is a synopsis of what occurred in the 2:15 p.m. Saturday fatal crash as described in an email media alert to Headline Surfer (minus the names of the driver of the motor vehicle and child on the dirt bike:
Members of the Daytona Beach Police Department's Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit and paramedics arrived on scene shortly a series of 9-1-1 calls.
Detectives believe a 13-year-old, later identified as Montrey N. Glover, 13, of Daytona Beach, was behind the controls of a yellow and white 2020 Suzuki RMZ 450 as it headed southbound towards the intersection of 6th and Derbyshire.
The detectives said It appears the dirt bike was going at a high rate of speed as it traveled on the grassy shoulder east of Derbyshire between the road and the sidewalk. Meanwhile, a 56-year-old motorist, Julienne Alixe, 56, who was behind the wheel of a black 2015 Toyota RAV4, which was heading south on Derbyshire made a left turn at the intersection to head east on 6th Street. She completed that turn while she had the green light.
After completing her turn, Alixie spotted the Suzuki out of the corner of her eye as it attempted to cross 6th Street and that’s when it hit head-on with the front driver’s side of her vehicle, causing the teen to be thrown from the bike and onto the roadway pavement. The boy was not wearing a helmet.

Paramedics transported the teenager from the scene to Halifax Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The child had just turned 13 seven days earlier.
Akixie was not injured and stayed on scene until DBPD units arrived. She was allowed to leave in her vehicle after speaking with investigators who have since determined that the Suzuki was reported stolen from Daytona Power Sports on March 27. The manufacturer's suggested retail price on a bike like this is $8,999.
The dirt bike was towed from the scene and will be processed for evidence by police.
No other people or vehicles were involved in this incident.
In addition to attempting to determine who was at fault in the fatal crash, detectives are actively trying to determine how the dirt bike was stolen and who was involved in the theft.
The names of the deceased teen and that of the motorist were finally released on Monday, two days after Headline Surfer requested them. A copy of the incident report requested at the same time, was released shortly after the names were finally provided.
