ORMOND BEACH -- I take offense at the Daytona Beach News-Journal headline, "New Volusia chair Davis had 2001 fraud arrest; charge later dropped," which is the latest example of the newspaper disrespecting the vote of the people.
Jason Davis was overwhelmingly elected by the voters of Volusia County on Nov. 6 by more than 20,000 votes over Carl Persis.
This non-event from a decade ago that the News-Journal brought up with its sensationalized headline was addressed by Davis previously when he was a candidate for Congress. If it was such a big deal, then why didn't the News-Journal raise it during Davis’ campaign for Volusia County Chair?

I dislike this type of “reporting” because it is neither timely nor fair. Sure it casts doubt on Davis’ character and it someone reads headlines only, it may cause some discomfort to those who voted for him. The late great Ronald Reagan once said, “trust but verify,” when talking about the Soviet Union. I’m talking about the News-Journal the same way. No wonder readers are abandoning the old media and looking to internet sources. At least we can get the whole story.
