DeLand's Athens Theatre to offer 'Spooktacular' Halloween movie marathon

DELAND -- The historic Athens Theatre, in partnership with the West Volusia Film Authority, will host its first annual "Athens Halloween Spooktacular" throughout the day and night on Saturday, Oct. 31.

At 11 a.m., the day kicks off with a series of four classic Abbott & Costello horror movies, followed by an evening of campy horror films, with the iconic Ted V. Mikels' ASTRO ZOMBIES as the headliner.
The movie marathon event culminates with a midnight screening of The Rocky Horror Show.

Blue Heron International Pictures will have a display of oddities in the lobby which will help movie audiences get in the proper mood for Halloween.

"I know audiences of all ages will enjoy the exhibit," manager Ed Kirkland said. "Best of all, we will have live stage magic and FX make-up
presentations, raffles, a silent auction -- all sorts of treats in addition to the films."

The raffles will include autographed copies of books by local authors Marian Strong Tomblin, Charlie Carlson, and Richard Lester. Jon Provost, the child actor who played Timmie on the Lassie TV series, is also sending autographed copies of his book for the auction.

According to Kirkland, the Athens Halloween Spooktacular will be an afternoon of fears and jeers, followed by an evening of blood -- with lots of treats in between.

For advance tickets, call 386-736-7456 between noon and 4 p.m Tuesday through Friday. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.
An Abbott & Costello pass is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. The evening horror show pass is $15. An All -- Event pass is available for $20. A separate pass good for the Rocky Horror Show only is available for $7.50
