DEBARY -- Two masked men with guns made off with a car, money, purses and cell phones during two separate robberies on Friday, one in Deltona and the other in DeBary. No shots were fired and no one was injured, and Volusia County Sheriff's investigators are looking into the possibility that the
two incidents are related.
The first robbery occurred shortly before 7 p.m. at a mobile MRI trailer on Deltona Boulevard in Deltona. Two men dressed in black, with black material covering their faces, came through the door. At least one of the suspects was armed with a pistol, Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said.
"They first tried to rob the business, but the intruders were told that the business only accepts
insurance payments and doesn't keep cash on hand," Davidson said. "They then stole two purses and robbed one of the employees of cash and his car keys and then took off in the employee's 2005 black, two-door Mazda with a Florida plate. The tag number is L65-1QG. The stolen vehicle hasn't been located."
One of the suspects had a scar on his neck, and both were described as black men between the ages of 20-30.
A little less than five hours later, two armed men fitting the same description accosted a DeBary family as they got out of a car in the driveway of a home on Doverton Lane, Davidson said.
The victims, a man and his mother and cousin, were returning home from their family business when they were robbed in the driveway by twobBlack men with guns. Both wore dark clothes and had their faces obscured and were described as in their early 20s and between 5 feet 8 and 5 feet 10, with short cropped hair and possibly shaved heads. The suspects made off with a bank bag containing an
undisclosed amount of money, a wallet and two cell phones.
After the robbery, the men ran behind the house and disappeared. Investigators believe they had a get-away vehicle stashed nearby, Davidson said.
