Finally, it's warming up so get out and enjoy the sunshine

I was excited when I saw the e-mail alert from the National Weather Service this morning that the wind-chill advisory had expired. And what a beautiful day it has become as I filed this blog just after 2 p.m. on a sunny Saturday afternoon here in our beloved New Smyrna Beach. Sera and I got out for a little while with a trip to Wal-Mart, the bank and and back home.

This has been the absolute worst winter I can remember in my 15 years here from New York and New England, where, of course, winter is much, much worse. It felt good to wear shorts again outside today.

The sunshine should warm up the stands at Daytona International Speedway for today's two races -- the Nationwide stock-car race and the later truck race that was canceled yesterday because of the rain.

Sera and I hope everyone gets a chance to spend some time today in the sun. Whatever your complaints. You could be shoveling snow. Just the thought of that makes me pleased to call the Sunshine State home.
