DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Pro wrestler Jeff Hardy faces a DUI charge after his arrest on Monday morning on Interstate 4, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said they received reports of a white Dodge Charger swerving across several lanes of Interstate 4 Monday morning. Troopers caught up with the vehicle as it merged from I-4 onto Interstate 95, records show.
Hardy was pulled over but struggled with putting his car in park and appeared to be confused during his interaction with law enforcement, troopers said.
Here is a synopsis of what happened with the stop, according to the Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Kim Montes in a breaking news email media alert to Headline Surfer: Pro wrestler Jeff Hardy was arrested today by Trooper Zach Steiner, in Volusia County. FHP received calls about an impaired driver along I-95, in Volusia County. Trooper Steiner conducted a traffic stop and arrested Jeff Hardy for DUI, driver’s license restrictions, and an interlock violation from a previous DUI."
Among Trooper Steiner's observations: Hardy was put through field sobriety exercises which showed he was unsteady on his feet. Hardy submitted to a breathalyzer which showed an alcohol content of higher than .29, more than four times the legal limit of .08.
Hardy, 44, was transported and booked into the Volusia County Jail in Daytona at 12:45 p.m. Monday. He is awaiting his first appearance in court on Tuesday before a judge to face charges of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol (third offense within 10 years), driving on a canceled or suspended license, and violating restrictions previously placed on his driver’s license.
Jeff Hardy rose to fame in the WWE in a tag team with his brother, Matt Hardy. The brothers went on to successful solo careers and more recently starring in All Elite Wrestling.
