Sera and I watched the nail biter that was Game 2 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals with the Orlando Magic coming up three points short in a 95-92 loss to the Boston Celtics. The Magic now go to Boston on Saturday down 2-0 in the best of seven series.
Sera was particularly upset with the free-throw performances of Dwight Howard, and especially Vince Carter in the last minute of the game when he missed both of his with few precious seconds remaining on a foul by Boston's Paul Pierce that put the Celtics star on the bench for good.
"They wasted opportunities with their free throws," she said.
Several times during the 4th quarter, the ABC TV analysts, Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson, made reference several times to Carter being brought to Orlando from New Jersey for late game heroics, but on this night the Daytona Beach native came up short big time.
And Monday night's Los Angeles Lakers drubbing of the Phoenix Suns in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals gave Sera and I less hope of seeing an Orlando-Phoenix finals instead of Lakers-Celtics.
There's still time for the Magic and the Suns to turn their fortunes around, but Boston is already half way there and L.A. has already notched a win.
