As Florida’s Governor, I remain committed to helping families have the tools and resources they need. Important tools such as world-class education for all children.

Florida’s young people deserve a solid educational foundation for the future. We cannot – and must not – let them down. That is why I signed legislation this week which improves an important scholarship program for Florida students and parents.

The Florida Tax Credit Scholarship program is an excellent example of how public education is adapting to the needs of the 21st century.

Through programs like Step Up for Students, Florida’s teachers and school leaders are finding new and creative ways to reach our students. Our diverse student population deserves more than a “one-size-fits-all” approach.

Much like you, I continue to fight to protect and increase funding for public education. I also want to encourage programs that achieve results – while freeing resources for other vital programs. The key is to match our students with the right school, whether it is a traditional public school, a magnet or charter school, or a private school.

If it’s the right environment for your child, then it doesn’t matter who runs it. Nothing is more important to Florida’s future than the talent and knowledge of our tomorrow’s leaders.
