Magic come up short in Game 1

Sera and I watched Game 1 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals between the Boston Celtics and the home-standing Orlando Magic. Like many of you, we were glued to the TV, screaming mostly.

The Magic almost came back from what looked like a blowout by Boston, with the final score 92-88. The series is significant locally for a couple of reasons. First, the Magic are the closest we have to a national professional sports franchise. Second, they have Vince Carter, who graduated from Mainland High School in Daytona Beach.

After shutting down LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Boston Celtics looked pretty unstoppable in Game 1 of this series, but the Magic made it interesting to the end.

It would be great to see a Orlando Magic-Phoenix Suns finals, but Sera and I are getting an unsettled feeling that it could be the Los Angeles Lakes and Boston Celtics, again, for the umpteenth time. We hope not.
