Mass of Christian Burial for Mary E. Smith Morton, age 85, who died Saturday at South Seminole Hospital, Longwood, will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach, with The Reverend John S. Murray, officiating.
Burial will follow in Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater. Calling hours will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home, New Smyrna Beach.
Born in Elgin, Illinois, Mary spent part of her childhood in "The Dust Bowl" of Oklahoma. She worked as a secretary at the Pentagon, then returned to school at Broward Community College, receiving her Associate of Nursing degree and graduating with her daughter. She moved to New Smyrna Beach in 1985 from Broward County, where she worked as both a visiting nurse and a hospital R.N. A long time resident of the Sun Beach Club in New Smyrna Beach, she was a parishioner at Our Lady Star of the Sea and was actively involved in the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Mary was the family historian, enjoyed walking on the beach and shopping.
Survivors include her husband of 16 years, James Morton of Longwood, a daughter, Ann Smith and her husband Jeff Momoi of Arlington, Virginia, a granddaughter, Kelsey Momoi, a brother Jack Larabee and his wife Glenda of Tucson, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Chapman Smith.
