Mayor Adam Barringer was the guest of honor at the 2010 Boy Scouts of America Southeast Volusia Golden Eagle Dinner on Saturday night at the Atlantic Center for the Arts. Among the Boy Scouts were 13-year-old Symian Wesley, 11-year-old James Goines and 10-year-old Xavier Boyd, all at front of the nine-member Troop and Pack 487 Allen Chapel AME Church, along with scout masters Richard Boulton and Arthur Williams. The woman in the middle of the photo is Mary Barringer, an assistant principal at New Smyrna Beach High School and Mayor Barringer's mother who was there with her husband and the mayor's father, Ron Barringer, obscured in the photo, and Shannon Sumner, partially obscured, who is Mayor Barringer's fiancee.
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Mayor Adam Barringer was the guest of honor Saturday night for the annual Golden Eagle Dinner, the fundraiser for the Southeast Volusia Boy Scouts.
And while the mayor received a giant Eagle replica afte giving a rousing speech, it was the fundraiser amount that had everyone cheering: $27,160 raised.
The event was sponsored by the Muscle Car Workout Soda Blaster, which has a show on PBS. Besides Barringer, other dignitaries in attendance included City Commissioner Judy Reiker and her Eagle Scout husband, Guy Mariande, as well as City Commissioner Jack Grasty, Assistant City Manager Khalid Resheidat, City Clerk Johnny Bledsoe and City Attorney Frank Gummey.
The dinner host was Mark Hall, a New Smyrna Beach attorney, who remarked of the scouting experience: "It takes out youth and turns them into good adults."
