Melbourne woman killed in single-vehicle crash on I-95 near Edgewater

EDGEWATER -- A 51-year-old Melbourne woman was killed Thursday afternoon on Interstate 95 near Edgewater after she lost control of her 2001 Mazda sport utility vehicle into the median and struck a row of trees, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Farogat Azizova was northbound near mile marker 241 at 544 p.m. when she lost control of the SUV for unknown reasons left the outer lane and struck the trees in the median, resulting in her death, the FHP said.

A passenger, Svetlana Spiegelhalter, 59, of Melbourne, was airlefted by Sheriff's helicopter to Halifax Medical Center with critical injuries.
