Memorial Drawbridge in Daytona Beach could be replaced

DAYTONA BEACH -- The 56-year-old Veterans Memorial Drawbridge that connects Orange Avenue with Silver Beach Avenue on the beachside, is shot and either needs significant rehabilitation or replacement altogether, according to Volusia County transportation officials.

Officials are seeking public comment on the bridge's future at a 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 20 meeting at the Daytona Beach Recreational Hall, 110 E. Orange Ave.

The two-lane drawbridge was built in 1954 and is one of two remaining drawbridges left in Daytona Beach. The other is the Main Street Bridge.
