NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Miss Scarlet, the neglected pooch who has turned into a sensational media darling, has been named grand marshal for the February Mardi Paws on Parade in New Smyrna Beach.

The city was one of the locations chosen by legendary Hollywood Producer/Director Ted V. Mikels while filming his latest movie "ASTRO ZOMBIES M3:Cloned."

Miss Scarlet has a cameo appearance in the film.

As grand marshal, the canine film veteran will ride on top of an old fire truck with Weird Florida's Master of the Weird, Charlie Carlson, of Edgewater. The truck will be escorted by four K-9 cops with their police dogs.

Miss Scarlet follows last year's grand marshal, Marley, America's beloved dog star from the movie "Marley and Me."

Originally known as Dakota, Miss Scarlet is a 7-year old female boxer. She spent the first year of life as a neglected pup chained to a tree until rescued by two animal lovers.

In 2007, she made her show business debut on stage in a magic show and in 2008, was featured as a lap dog, named Dolly, in an independent film produced by Blue Heron International Pictures, titled, "Henry Blackhart is Dead."

For her part in the film, she was presented the 2008 Blue Heron Animal Choice Award. In 2009, she began work as the co-star in Weird Florida: Roads Less Traveled. The PBS Television show is a one-hour, weird and wacky travelogue which takes viewers from Key West, across the Everglades and up through Central Florida, ending in West Florida.

During the filming, Miss Scarlet traveled nearly 1,500 miles in the Weird-Mobile, most of it with her head stuck out the window and her chops flapping in the breeze. Miss Scarlet's latest movie, "ASTRO ZOMBIES M3:Cloned, is scheduled for release by TVM Global Entertainment in 2010.
