New Year's forecast for Central Florida: Picture-perfect with plenty of sunshine and temps in the low 80s

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- It looks like picture-perfect weather is in the forecast for New Year's weekend.

At least through New Year's Eve and Sunday morning with a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Here is the five-day forecast for greater Daytona Beach from the National Weather Service in Melbourne.

TODAY: Sunny skies with a high near 83 with a south southwest wind of 5 to 10 mph. Tonight calls for patchy fog rolling in after 3 a.m. Otherwise, increasing clouds, with a low around 62, and calm wind.

FRIDAY: Patchy fog will dissipate around 8.m. with mostly sunny skies with a high near 82, with a southwest wind at 5 to 10 mph. Then has the clock starts ticking to New Year's Eve, there will be partly cloudy skies with a low around 62. And winds shifting from south to southwest at 5 mph after midnight.

NEW YEAR'S DAY: Sunny, with a high near 84. South southwest winds of 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

SUNDAY: Partly sunny skies in the morning with mid-day highs around 83. Things could change by early afternoon with a 40 percent chance of showers or and thunderstorms. And southwest winds at 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
