NSB cops arrest three teens in stolen car and recover handgun

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Three local teens were arrested in a stolen car and a handgun recovered following a suspicious motor vehicle stop at 3 a.m. off 10th Street, New Smyrna Beach police reported.

The car was speeding and driving recklessly when cops caught up with it in the parking lot of the Newport Sound Apartments off 10 Street. Three teens jumped out of the car and ran and police caught up with them a short distance later with the help of canine units.

"We believe the (handgun and other property) were stolen from other vehicles," police Sgt. Denise Johns wrote in her report. The car was reported stolen from an Edgewater home.

Jerrid Buhler, 17, and Andrew Mudell and Justin Scullion, both 19, were all charged with grand theft auto, armed burglary and grand theft.

Mudell was also charged with trafficking in hydrocodone, and Scullion was also charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest and driving without a driver’s license.

The two older teens were booked into the Volusia Branch Jail in Daytona Beach and the 17-year-old into the Volusia Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Daytona Beach.
