NSB library looking for 'Wimpy Kid' readers

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The New Smyrna Beach Regional Library is looking for Wimpy Kid readers.

They don’t have to be wimpy themselves, they just need to be fans of the new 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' books, a series of cartoon-based novels chronicling middle school life," said Pat Kuehn, Volusia County spokeswoman.

Students, ages 9 - 14, are invited to a free Wimpy Kid event from 1 - 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, in the library auditorium.

Participants will watch a YouTube review, explore author Jeff Kinney’s web site, discuss the characters, and draw cartoons of their own families. Snacks will be provided. Afterward, they can stay for a free movie showing of Get Smart.

Students are encouraged to read one of the Wimpy books before attending.

"Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” published in 2007, and “Rodrick Rules,” the second in the series, have spent months on The New York Times bestseller list for children's chapter books. A third book, “The Last Straw,” will be published Jan. 13. Each book is 224 pages long.

For more information or to register, please call (386) 424-2910, ext. 111, or stop by the library’s information desk. The library is open seven days a week at 1001 S. Dixie Freeway.
