Playing Monopoly in NSB

Editor's Note: The following blog is in response to allegations made in three non-criminal tickets issued to Community Redevelopment Director Kevin Fall on Nov. 14 by New Smyrna Beach police charging him with driving with an open container of alcohol, speeding and driving without registration.

Let's Play!

I always loved the game of Monopoly as a child. We would play for hours and hours. I never understood the philosophy behind it then, but I do now. It was created by a "Capitalist" and that suits me fine.

What about "JAIL?"

"Jail"... You land on jail when...(1) your token lands on the space marked "Go to Jail; (2) you draw a card marked "Go to Jail"; or (3) you throw doubles three times in succession.

O.K. What does jail have to do with this blog?

Kevin Fall, our director of CRA, for our city. I think he knows how to play the game of Monoploy.

He landed on the space marked "Go to Jail" when he was charged with driving with an open container of alcohol.

He drew a card marked "Go to Jail" for sure on an "open container." He threw doubles three times in succession; open container, speeding, and no registration in his vehicle.

Please tell me, how did he pass go, collect $65,000.00 a year, and not go to jail?

Oh, I forgot. He works for the City of New Smyrna Beach. After all, he identified himself as a city employee and it was "officer's discretion" not to have this city department head undergo a field sobriety test to be sure he wasn't impaired, even though the officer alleged that he was driving with an open can of beer.

Think it would have been the same for you and I? Oh, no. We would have "gone to jail, directly to jail, do not pass go."

We would not have gotten a free get out of jail card.
