SANFORD, Fla. -- Seminole County Sheriff’s investigators arrested Allen Pendergrass for his involvement in an armed carjacking incident  in which a large kitchen knife was used to steal a car during a test drive, but he didn't get vey far. When law enforcement caught up with him he got a ride to jail.

Here's a synopsis of what occurred, according to SCSOspokeswoman Kim Canaday in an email to Headline Surfer: A preliminary investigation revealed that at 1 p.m. Saturday, the victim, a salesman for Mastro Subaru located at 4113 N. U.S. Highway 17-92 in unincorporated Sanford, was approached by Pendergrass who told him he was interested in buying a car. Pendergrass requested to test-drive a red Hyundia hatchback. The victim then got into the passenger seat and Pendergrass proceeded to drive the vehicle off the lot.

"While stopped at the traffic light at East Lake Mary Boulevard and North Ronald Reagan Boulevard, Pendergrass reached behind the passenger seat and pulled a large kitchen knife from his bag," Canaday said. "Pendergrass held the knife inches away from the victim’s face and ordered him to get out of the vehicle. The victim got out of the vehicle, removed the magnetic dealer license plate, and struck Pendergrass in the shoulder with it. Pendergrass then fled the scene in the red Hyundai."
