Sheriff's Office: Toddler drowns in pool near Ormond Beach

ORMOND BEACH -- A 2-year-old boy drowned Sunday evening in the family backyard pool near Ormond Beach, the Violusia County Sheriff's Office said.

The child's grandparents and uncle were doing yard work at the child's home while the mother was at work. They told deputies that the boy had been napping for a while when they went to check on him and discovered he was missing. A quick search led to finding him in the pool.

A 911 call at 5:06 p.m. sent deputies and EVAC ambulance paramedics rushing to 47 Village Drive. A family member pulled the victim, Austin Larsen, out of the pool and started CPR. Deputies arrived on scene first and took over CPR until paramedics got there. He was then rushed by ambulance to Florida Hospital Memorial in Daytona Beach where he was later pronounced dead. The pool is screened-in onto the back of the house.

The Volusia County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to confirm the cause of death, which is being treated as accidental.
