Southeast Volusia Relay for Life raises $130,000 for American Cancer Society

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- - It's official: Southeast Volusia Relay for Life raised $130,000 during the two-day "Rock the Cure" fundraiser that began Friday at Riverside Park with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

"A record-setting 62 teams raised approximately $130,000 for the American Cancer Society in Southeast Volusia," Gentry Baumline-Robinson, a spokeswoman for the relay, said today. "Judy Rosky, cancer survivor, led more than 170 Survivors on their annual lap around the park, followed by a catered survivor dinner and live auction that raised $1,500 on event night."

More than 900 luminarias lit up Riverside Park and the top earning team was the Oceanwalkers.

Held annually as a major fund-raising initiative for the American Cancer Society, SEV Relay for Life is a life-changing event that celebrates the lives of those who have and who continue to battle cancer, remembers loved ones lost and fights back against the disease.

SEV Relay continually ranks among the top 20 events throughout Florida.
