Stop the World: I want to get off of it

EDGEWATER, Fla. -- Today I feel like, Stop the World: I want to get off of it.

I got onto my timeline on Facebook and the first two things I saw were that our president was signing a bill so his coal companies can dump waste products into the rivers and streams.

Then, I moved down to the next item which the New Jersey Governor was signing a bill to allow free college to immigrants. What about the actual citizens of this nation struggling to pay exorbitant amounts of money for classes, books, etc.and racking up student loans, which they will pay for many years? Shouldn’t our citizens come first or at least others have to pay for the same privilege of education?

I left Facebook then and went to look at the television which was showing an American woman marrying a royal prince with all the trappings that go with that special celebration. I am happy for her, but the contrast between those things struck me as how strange the current world is today. Millions watched this young couple take their vows while millions more starved and died around the world.

Many places around the world today are in wars and have no peace, let alone all the wealth that was spent today on the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. There is much talk about how this couple is conscious of the ills of the world and will be working to help people. Let’s hope so. But they can only do so much on their own.

Our politicians, including the president, don’t seem to be working for the good of the people. They seem more bent on helping the high rollers, undoing good previous legislation, and drowning our country in debt.

I don’t know what’s out there if it were possible to stop the world and get off but the way we are headed it won’t be long until we are all floating out there when those same idiots blow up the earth.
