NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- Two brothers, ages 10 and 7, with severe burns on their faces, chests and arms, are hospitalized in critical condition and their mother commited under the state's Baker Act, for psychiatric evaluation, New Smyrna Beach police said of the early Monday incident at a duplex in the 400 block of 10th Street.
The boys are being treated at the burn unit at the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children following the 4 a.m. incident in which the boys were at a neighbors, saying they accidentally burned themselves with scalding boiled water while trying to cook hot dogs.

Cops responded to a 4:17 a.m. noise complaint and after seeing the boys in the condition they were through the windows and no one answering the door, forced their way in, Cmdr. Wade Kirby told Headline Surfer.
"The boys were treated on scene by paramedics and then transported to the Orlando hospital that specializes in treating critical burns." Kirby said. "Their mother was taken to Halifax Medical Center and an arrest warrant was expected to be served on her, charging her with failing to show up in court to answer a worthless check charge."

Kirby said police later obtained a search warrant on the mother's residence, which was so bad investigators had to wear rubber boots. He said an investigation is ongoing and police are sharing information with the Florida Department of Children and Families on behalf of the boys.
Police did not release the names of the mother or the minor boys, citing medical confidentiality issues.
