Two charged in NSB meth-lab operation

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The makings of a meth house was shut down Tuesday by Sheriff's deputies during a "knock and talk" at a residence at 1819 Pioneer Trail just outside the city limits that also resulted in two arrests, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office reported.

Arrested in the 9:40  a.m. incident were Dawn Brooks, 40, and Michael Johnsen, 41, on charges of possession of illicit chemicals. Brooks was additionally charged with and battery on a law enforcement officer. Both were being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach on $3,000 and $1,500 bail, respectively.

Deputies with the Eastside Narcotics Task Force knocked on the door and when Brooks answered, pushed away a deputy and slammed the door, Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said. Deputies then obtained a search warrant and entered the premesis where the materials for the makings of methanmphetamines were discovered, Davidson said, reslting in the arrests.
