The news over the past few days has had its ups and downs. A 16-year-old boy visiting with his parents from Minnesota fell 24 stories to his death from a beachside resort Sunday in Daytona Beach. He decided to stack up some chaits on the balcony so he could see the sun rise and he fell. That was unexpected, tragic and shocking. A man was shot by another the day before in Daytona Beach in a Spring Break-related incident and is on life support. This, too, was unexpected and tragic, but I can't say it was shocking, considering the event associated with it often involves alcohol and drugs. Closer to home, Christopher Trull of Oak Hill, the middle of the Trull brothers involved in the Spring Break carnage a decade ago in New Smyrna Beach, was finally apprehended Thursday night after absconding from his post-prison probation nearly three years ago. Trull's arrest, which you can read about under media alerts, was certainly unexpected and newsworthy, but far from shocking and it certainly wasn't tragic. And Monday night, the New Smyrna Beach City Commission opted to hold off on potential legal action against the Angler's Club while talks continue between the two sides regarding a longstanding lease where technical issues have been raised. This news event was obviously not shocking, tragic or unexpected.
I wasn't able to attend the meeting because I have bronchitis. I need to catch up on the weekend news, and I'm likely going to file blogs in the next couple of days on Trull and the Angler's because they are important issues. I'll also have updates on the weekend tragedies and news updated news and blogs here in Southeast Volusia, including Capt. Budd Neviaser's latest outdoors blog.
I'll have some new ads as well as updated calendar items, milestones and obituary postings.
Thanks to everyone for their continued support and I hope to feel much better in a few days.
