DELAND, Fla. -- As of Thursday, the elections office in Volusia County had received 46,196 vote-by-mail ballots and counted every one of them for the Aug. 18 primary.

The breakdown of registered voters who have turned in voting by mail-in ballots are as follows:

• Democrats: 20,053;

• Republicans: 17,390;

• Other: 8,763.

As for criticisms by President Donald Trump that there would likely be a major backlog in counting votes by mail in the general election, Lisa Lewis, the Supervisor of Elections, and a registered Republican, said she doesn't see that as an issue here.

"We've counted every one of them that has come in so far," Lewis told Headline Surfer.

Trump did say, however, earlier this week that he trusts Florida with mail-in ballot voting, citing Gob. Ron DeSantis and former Gov. Rick Scott, now a US Senator. as great leaders, while still insisting it will be bad everywhere else.

Sample Ballots for the Aug. 18 Primary Election were mailed to voters who did not have a vote by mail request on file at the time of the printing, Lewis said.

An audio sample ballot is also available, she said by calling 386-254-4688.
