DELTONA -- A Deltona man was killed Saturday when a vehicle crossed into the path of his motorcycle, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office reported.
Jose Garcia, 48, was transported by EVAC ambulance to Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial in Orange City where he was later pronounced dead.
At approximately 12:21 p.m., a 2003 Ford Explorer driven by Michael Pentz was traveling southbound on North Normandy Boulevard in Deltona. Pentz, a 41-year-old
Deltona resident, attempted to make a left turn onto Piedmont Drive, but drove into the path of oncoming traffic, Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught said.
Garcia was driving his 2006 Honda CB 1000R northbound on North Normandy Boulevard and attempted to take evasive action to avoid
a collision with Pentz, Haught said, but Garcia lost control and was ejected from his motorcycle, first making contact with the Explorer and then the roadway.
Garcia was not wearing a helmet and suffered significant head trauma
During initial interviews with Pentz, deputies did not observe any signs of impairment. The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident.
