DAYTONA BEACH -- To promote its new beach recycling program, Volusia County will give free recycling tote bags to the first 1,000 beach-goers starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 7, and Sunday, March 8, at designated toll booths from Ormond Beach south to Ponce Inlet, county spokeswoman Pat Kuehn said.
The bags will be available at the Granada and University boulevard booths in Ormond Beach; the Seabreeze Boulevard, International Speedway Boulevard and Silver Beach Avenue booths in Daytona Beach; the Florida Shores Boulevard and Dunlawton Avenue booths in Daytona Beach Shores; and the Beach Street booth in Ponce Inlet.
The recycling bags were purchased by Anderson Co., the county’s beach trash and recycling collection and disposal contractor. Volusia County’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Division launched the recycling program on the beach in late 2008 by placing more than 200 recycling containers next to trash containers.
