What will Joe Six Pack do now?

I would modestly propose that the days of American security have had it. No longer can we depend on George Bush and Company for the only hope their administration promised: To secure our country, our lives and our fortunes. The Obama regime will have to struggle with that accumulated Republican mess, one so prodigious that The Good Lord Himself might declare, “The hell with it!"

But such dangers have long been with us, and so much a part of our everyday lives that we need hardly dwell on them. It is my aim here to bring attention to our greatest loss of all: the threat to The American ego, which, like the American eagle, may never again get off the ground: Without Republican machinery to reinforce it, the justification of greed and celebration of ignorance are on the endangered list

With such monumental intellects—such “elitist” personalities as Barack Obama, in addition to a new cabinet, appointed to handle their positions responsibly -- where are we going to put Joe Six Pack? What are we going to do without equalizers, both liquid and anti-intellectual, to make us feel adequate?

What’s going to happen to the mediocrity so cherished by voters who insist on leaders of their own mental caliber? What if the worst fear of all comes true: Money is no longer equated with virtue, and “faith” is placed in leaders elected to cope with this world instead of copping out in favor of the next?

What if students were actually inspired to learn and those with purchased credentials from ivy-league institutions were recognized as phony?

What if a Palin or a Bush’s obvious inability to handle his own native language grammatically were seen as an indication that such minds might be as fuzzy as what comes out of their mouths?

What if, along with patting ourselves on the back for finally admitting that an African American might have a superior mind and charismatic personality, we allowed our own egos to admit that white is not necessarily synonymous with right?

What if being gay has nothing to do with moral inferiority, and being “straight” with better-than-thou holiness?

What if it dawned on us that Nature is The Decider in such cases?

As for all this up-the-womanizing in politics, we couldn’t have better examples of deserving versus unqualified than those on display in this past election process. The threat of Hillary-power, especially to the male ego, couldn’t be more obvious in its general reception over the years by men who are so terrified of intelligence they must call a good mind “witchcraft” and execute it wherever possible?

By contrast, Sarah Palin is worthy of worship for her shallow head and well-blown exterior. Her credentials as a “governor” are beauty-pageant perfect. The Republicans in charge of vice-presidential choice are to be congratulated in bringing her to our attention: They had to go all the way to Alaska to find someone even more stupid than George Bush.

Michelle Obama can hardly retain her American idolatry for long. As brilliant as she is decorative, she will undoubtedly be exposed as a thinking professional woman as well as a dedicated wife and mother.

Like Hillary Clinton and Eleanor Roosevelt, Michelle Obama will answer to every curse from the malnourished ego that good ol’ Plumber Joe can turn into a cliché. The fact that she "earned" her degrees and position honestly and with hard work will be as suspect as her wonderful father’s hard work at two jobs to support it.

Washington personnel may be familiar amidst the promise of change, but the threat of their effectiveness is going to be a hundred-eighty-degree reversal.

If our planet is to survive, Joe Six Pack’s ego is going to go the way of millionaire welfare.
