Wild fire contained near I-4 in DeLand and new one erupts near S.R. 92 in Daytona

DELAND -- FIirefighting crews continued to work to contain the Woody Tract fire near Interstate 4 in DeLand Saturday, while another fire began in Tiger Bay State Forest off Indian Lake Road in Daytona Beach around 5 p.m., said Shelley Szafraniec, spokeswoman for Volusia County Fire Services.

The Indian Lake Fire is west of Indian Lake Road, north of State Road 92.The fire was moving southwest in the state forest and was 85 acres as of 8 p.m.

Today, in addition to six state Division of Forestry bulldozers and a DOF helicopter, eight units from Volusia County Fire Services and the Daytona Beach Fire
Department were on scene in Tiger Bay State Forest. No structures or homes are endangered from this fire. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is
investigating the cause of the fire.

Additionally today, firefighting and public works crews continued working to contain the Woody Tract fire in unincorporated Volusia County near I-4 in DeLand, creating fire lines on the southwest and west sides of the fire. Four DOF tractors plowed lines. As of 8 p.m. Saturday, the fire consumed 1,100 acres and 50-percent contained.

Firefighting crews will return this morning to Woody Tract. DOF will return with additional heavy equipment to plow lines, and Volusia County Fire Services will
be on scene with three brush trucks and one tender that will work both the Indian Lake and Woody Tract fires. Additional crews at Woody Tract Sunday will include the
Volusia County Road and Bridge Division and the Strategic Reserve Team. (The Strategic Reserve Team is comprised of personnel from Volusia County Department of Corrections, Volusia County Emergency Management, Volusia County Public Protection, the Florida Highway Patrol and EVAC. The team is used for all hazards as an incident management resource.)

Other fires that continue throughout Volusia County - ranging in size from .5 acre to 117 acres - are being monitored daily by fire services officials.
