ORLANDO -- The Orlando Sentinel reported on its Web site Monday night that the state of Florida will seek the death penalty against Casey Anthony, if she is found guilty of first-degree murder in the killing of her toddler daughter, Caylee.
The Sentinel quoted the Orange County prosecutor's office, in reversing course, that "sufficient aggravating circumstances exist to justify the imposition of the Death Penalty..."
The Sentinel interviewed a legal expert, Bob Jarvis, who teaches legal ethics and law and popular culture at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, who explained why the state has gone for the ultimate penalty.
Prosecutors are frustrated because Anthony isn't accepting a plea, Jarvis told the Orlando newspaper, but he added, a jury might not want her sentenced to death.
"We don't execute women in Florida," Jarvis told the Sentinel. "Juries find it very difficult to send young women to death row."
