Man robbed on Faulkner Street by gunman

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A 43-year-old city man was robbed of an undisclosed amount cash by a gunman on Faulkner Street, just north of Mary Avenue just before noon, New Smyrna Beach police said.

The victim, Phillip Matthew, was unhurt, police said.

Here is a synopsis of what Sgt. Eugene Griffith wrote in his report: Today at approximately 11:41 a.m. New Smyrna Beach Police received a report of an armed robbery in the area of Faulkner Street and Mary Avenue. Investigating officers met with Phillip Flint who reported he was walking north on Faulkner Street and an unknown black male approached him from behind. The black male asked for a cigarette and then instructed Mr. Flint to hand over his money. When Mr. Flint refused, the suspect produced a handgun from his waistband and told Mr. Flint again to hand over his money."

The robber took off west on Mary Avenue. He was described as 30 to 35 years-old with a thin build, clean-shaved head and face, ruddy complexion and a tattoo on his left upper arm.
