NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The bodies of two bottlenose dolphins washed ashore Wednesday morning in the vicinity of the 27th Avenue ramp, marine officials said.
A third dolphin was found dead Sunday near the 16th Avenue Approach.
Biologists with the from Hubbs-Seaworld Research Institute in Melbourne have yet to determine what may have led to their deaths since there were no outward signs of injury.
It's pretty unusual to have three, in a short time-span, so we have been in touch with the regional coordinator for strandings," said Teresa Mazza, Hubbs SeaWorld Research Institute.
The dolphins were all males, each weighed around 400 pounds and had been eating, Mazza said.
"We're definitely going to want to cover our bases and looking at toxins and anything that might affect mortality for multiple animals in a small area," she added.
