NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The New Smyrna Beach Fire Department and Local 2271 International Association of Fire Fighters raised a record $11,020 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association during the Labor Day weekend "boot drive."
"The drive was very successful and donations were up considerably from last year," said Randy Wright, fire department spokesman. "According to Lt. Dymond this is the highest collection to date for an MDA boot drive. "
A collection point was established at Lytle and Palmetto avenues on Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend.
