DELAND -- A 64-year-old DeLand parachute diver was killed Friday when his main shoot failed to open over the DeLand Municipal Airport, DeLand police confirmed Monday.
Harley Howrey, who was with 21 other jumpers, fell from his jump with only a reserve shoot to slow him down, critically injuring him in the 6:17 p.m. accident, police said. He died a short time later at Florida Hospital DeLand. He was the fifth skydiver to lose his life in a jump there since 2005, police said.
