NSB biker, 57, killed on I-95

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A 57-year-old New Smyrna Beach man was killed Friday on Interstate 95, south of Old Dixie Highway when he lost control of his 1989 Harley-Davidson while northbound in the passing lane and was ejected 50 feet from his motorcycle, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

For some unknown reason William Wells lost control of his bike, which skidded on the
right shoulder of the roadway, traveled through the grass shoulder, overturned and came to final rest in the tree line. Wells was ejected from his motorcycle, which landed 50 feet from him, the FHP reported.

Wells was pronounced dead at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, following the 4:20 p.m. accident. He was not wearing a helmet, but the FHP didn't indicate whether that would have mattered.
