EDGEWATER -- Two people were injured in a mobile home fire just after noon today at 2450 South Ridgewood Ave., Lot 27, with reports of smoke coming from all windows and flames seen inside the structure, according to a spokeswoman with Edgewater Fire-Rescue that extinguished the fire.
"Upon arrival Edgewater firefighter/paramedics encountered two patients who suffered injuries related to the fire," spokeswoman Capt. Jill Danigel said. "The occupant of the home escaped the double-wide trailer by breaking out a window in the front of the home and diving out into the yard. He was transported to Bert Fish Medical Center in serious condition. Another victim was treated on the scene for injuries incurred while attempting to fight the fire with a garden hose from outside the structure.
Edgewater fire crews had the fire extinguished within seven minutes of their 12:17 p.m. arrival. None of the nearby mobile homes suffered any damage. The fire damage was estimated at $50,000, but another $10,000 in potential damage to a nearby structure was averted.
