NSB COPS: Be on the alert for air conditioning repair scammers

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Police are asking New Smyrna Beach homeowners to be on the alert for scammers posing as air conditioning repair workers.

"These guys have already hit twice in NSB, both times in the South Beach area, but could easily go elsewhere," cautioned New Smyrna Beach police Detective Tony Ford.

Please see the attached police community alert attached by NSBNEWS.net with this story.

These scammers claim to be making a service call to examine an air conditioning unit, claiming they are employed by the company that installed the unit.

After a brief inspection, they request payment be made directly to them; not the company they supposedly represent and there's usually a higher fee demanded than what was initially quoted, Ford said.

These scammers do not wear identification or proper company attire and should not, under any circumstances be let in the house. Legitimate air conditioning companies are not going to send anyone to a person's home unannounced.

When in doubt, call the police.
