
EDGEWATER -- A 24-year-old boater who fell overboard did what his father suggested when out by himself in the water: he wore a whistle. It helped him get rescued from a spoil island in Mosquito Lagoon Sunday night by the Coast Guard.
Stephen Stalmaker was fishing aboard his 16-foot silver bass boat when hwe fell overboard and managed to swim to the nearby island. Some eight hours later, anotherfisherman heard some holering and the whistle and called 9-1-1.
The Coast Guard found him in good condition, an official there said, adding the fisherman told rescuers he listened to the advice of his father in wearing a whistle while in a boat.
